The Republic of Botswana Joins the African Legal Support Facility

Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, 7 April 2026 – The Director of the African Legal Support Facility (ALSF), Mr. Olivier Pognon, as the Depositary of the Agreement for the Establishment of the ALSF, is pleased to announce that the Republic of Botswana has officially joined the ALSF and submitted its Instrument of Accession on 2 April 2026. This important milestone further strengthens the cooperation between Botswana and the ALSF and reflects the confidence of the Republic of Botswana in the Facility’s mandate and impact across the continent.

Over the years, the ALSF has supported Botswana through a range of legal and technical assistance initiatives in its energy  sector.  Botswana’s formal membership is therefore not only a reflection of strengthened institutional cooperation, but also a testament to the impactful work already undertaken by the ALSF in the country. The ALSF reaffirms a shared commitment to advancing bankable, transparent and sustainable transactions that support national development priorities and help deliver long-term value for the people of Botswana.

By becoming the 64th member, the Republic of Botswana thus helps to strengthen the geographical representativeness and weight of the Facility in its mandate to provide legal advice and capacity-building activities across the African continent.

About the ALSF

An international organization hosted by the African Development Bank since 2008, the ALSF provides legal and technical capacity, and supports African governments in negotiating complex commercial transactions, especially in the following key sectors: energy, infrastructure public-private partnerships, natural resources and extractive industries, and creditor litigation and sovereign finance. ALSF also develops innovative tools for capacity building and knowledge management, including its flagship ALSF Academy.
