Cynthia Kankindi is a Legal Counsel within the Operations Division of the Africa Legal Support Facility (‘ALSF’), having joined it in May of 2022. She carries the mandate of conducting legal due diligence on proposed transactions such as the review of project documents and agreements in key sectors of the ALSF; analysis of country requests for legal assistance and preparation of project proposals and reporting to the Director of ALSF. She supports the recruitment and management of external legal counsel, negotiating their fee arrangements and monitoring their execution of assigned work while managing the relationships of the ALSF and its external counsel with the governments that ALSF supports.
Prior to joining ALSF, Ms. Kankindi was a Legal Consultant/Strategic Legal Analyst at the Rwanda Development Board (‘RDB’) based in Kigali-Rwanda. While at the RDB, she led and coordinated the negotiation of complex high-value strategic contracts, in addition to reviewing and providing advice on strategic investment projects. She carried out these tasks on behalf of the Government of Rwanda. She concurrently held the position of board secretary to the RDB Board of Directors where she coordinated quarterly board meeting preparation as the key liaison between the RDB management and the board. This included board pack preparation and compilation, maintenance of board meeting records and advice to both management and the board. Prior to this, she was an associate at Equity Juris Chambers- a prominent Rwandan commercial law firm affiliated with the international law firm, DLA Piper. She is a proud alumni of the exclusive International Lawyers for Africa Flagship Secondment Programme where she served as an international secondee to the Tier 1 Firm, Dentons-London.
Ms. Kankindi holds a Bachelor of Law Degree from the Uganda Christian University, an LLM in International Trade Transactions from the University of Manchester and a Diploma in Legal Practice from the Institute of Legal Practice, Kigali-Rwanda.
